It’s usually a battle against thermal stress and those annoying voltage spikes. We got tired of seeing that cycle of constant downtime, so we built structural reinforced IR lamps. They’re designed as drop-in replacements—meaning you just pop them in and get back to work. The heat problem Here’s the thing: PET blowing is a balancing act. You need intense shortwave radiation to soften the preform, but if you overdo it, you scorch the plastic. To get that heat, you need high wattage. But that puts a massive amount of pressure on the quartz envelope. If the lamp can’t handle that expansion and contraction, it just snaps or burns out right at the electrodes. It’s a physics problem, plain and simple. How we actually fixed it We didn’t just make another bulb. We used heavy-wall quartz glass and beefed up the electrode junctions. Most cheap alternatives fail at the end-caps. Ours don’t. We also leaned into the halogen cycle to keep that tungsten filament from evaporating too fast, which keeps the lamp running much longer. Plus, we stuck with standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. No fancy mods, no rewiring your sockets. It just fits. Real talk from the shop floor These lamps take a beating. They’re tougher than the OEM parts, and you’ll definitely see more hours between swaps. But I’ll be honest with you: a better lamp can’t fix a broken cooling system. If your oven airflow is clogged, that heat is going to soak back into the socket and melt your wiring, no matter how good the bulb is. While you’re at it, give your reflectors a good clean. It ensures the energy actually hits the preform instead of just baking the lamp housing. We built these for 24/7 production.
