
Stop Fighting Your Old Blow Molding Machines
If you’re running a mid-sized bottle plant, you probably have a few aging machines that just won’t hit the cycle times you need. It’s frustrating. You feel like you’re fighting the equipment just to keep up with orders. But here’s a secret: you don’t always need to drop a fortune on a brand-new machine. Often, the bottleneck is just the heat. Swapping out those tired, worn-out IR lamps for high-density replacements can change everything. It shifts how the preform heats up, which means you can finally push the machine a bit harder without it pushing back.
It’s All About the Heat
Think of it this way. We design our lamps to pump out more shortwave IR emission. When you bump up the wattage or tighten the voltage, you’re hitting the PET wall with a lot more heat, a lot faster. The result? The preform spends less time sitting in the oven. And because these lamps have a tighter wattage tolerance, the heat is steady. No more annoying “cold spots” that lead to thin walls or—even worse—bottles that burst the moment they hit the mold. It just works.
No Headaches, No Rewiring
We use heavy-wall quartz glass because these tubes take a beating. Constant heating and cooling is brutal on materials, but these can handle the stress. The best part is the installation. We use standard R7s or Sk15 bases, so they’re basically “plug and play.” You don’t have to tear apart your control cabinet or spend a weekend rewiring things. You just pop the old tube out, slide the new one in, and you’re back in business. Some of our versions even have a special coating that bounces the heat back toward the preform. It’s a simple touch, but it stops you from wasting energy.
A Quick Word of Caution
Now, you can’t just throw the highest wattage lamp in there and call it a day. If you go way beyond your original specs, your cooling system has to be able to keep up. If the oven frame gets too hot, you risk warping your reflectors or frying your sensors. It’s a balancing act. You have to match the lamp’s output with your machine’s airflow. Get that right, and you’ll see your cycle times drop and your hourly output climb. It’s a win for everyone.
