
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heating Right
Here is the problem with swapping out OEM lamps in a Sidel Matrix oven: if your temperature curve shifts even a tiny bit, you’re in trouble. A small slip in wattage or voltage doesn’t sound like much, but it leads to uneven preheating. That’s how you end up with pearlescence or those annoying thin walls in your PET preforms. It’s a headache you just don’t need. That’s why we build our lamps to be true drop-in replacements. We mirror the original electrical and physical footprint exactly. No guesswork.
It’s more than just a label
We don’t just look at the sticker on the box and call it a day. We focus on the spectral output. Sidel systems need a very specific kind of shortwave infrared radiation to punch through the PET wall quickly. We pick our tungsten filaments and quartz envelopes specifically to hit the voltage and wattage your machine expects. This keeps the heat density per millimeter consistent. If you use a lamp with a lower voltage drop, you simply won’t hit the right temperature in the time the preform is actually in the oven. It’s that simple.
Plug and play
You shouldn’t have to rewire your oven racks just to change a bulb. Our lamps use the same connector interfaces you’re used to—usually R7s or Sk15. They just fit. Plus, we use high-purity quartz so they don’t burn out prematurely. Some of our tubes even have special coatings. These push the infrared energy toward the preform and keep it away from the oven walls, where it doesn’t do any good.
One thing to watch out for
High-wattage lamps are great for high-speed blowing, but they put a lot of pressure on your cooling blowers. If your ventilation is clogged or your fans are starting to give out, these lamps will run hotter than the OEM specs. It’s a good idea to keep your airflow clear so you don’t fry the lamp ends. By keeping the electrical resistance and dimensions identical to Sidel standards, your temperature curves stay flat. You get the exact same heating profile, just without the OEM price tag.
