
Stop Fighting Your SACMI Startup
If you’ve ever run a high-speed PET line, you know the stress of that window between loading the preforms and actually stretching them. It’s tiny. When your lamps take forever to get up to temperature during a startup or a cycle tweak, you’re basically gambling. You end up with burst preforms or walls so uneven they’re useless. It’s frustrating, and it wastes a lot of plastic. That’s why we rebuilt our replacement lamps for SACMI rotary machines. We wanted to kill that lag time.
How we actually made them faster
It comes down to the guts of the lamp. We used a high-density tungsten filament that hits peak heat way faster than the generic tubes you’ll find anywhere else. We also tightened the gap between voltage and wattage. The goal? The second the SCR triggers, the lamp hits its target heat flux. No waiting around. No “warming up” period. Just heat, right when you need it.
Built for the chaos of a rotary oven
These aren’t delicate pieces of lab equipment. They’re drop-in replacements designed for the real world. We used reinforced quartz glass because, let’s be honest, the heat in a rotary oven is intense. Standard glass bows. Ours doesn’t. Plus, we spec’d the connectors to handle the constant vibration of a SACMI setup. You won’t have to worry about them shaking loose in the middle of a shift. And here’s a little secret: we added specific coatings to shift the infrared spectrum. This pushes the heat deeper into the PET preform, and it does it faster. You get a smooth, uniform heat profile, which means you can crank up the machine speed without spotting “cold zones” in your bottles.
A couple of warnings
Look, these lamps put out a massive amount of heat density. Because of that, you have to keep your oven’s cooling blowers clean. If your airflow is choked, these lamps will practically bake your reflectors, and you’ll end up replacing the whole heating assembly way sooner than you should. One last thing before you install them: check your contact points for oxidation. A crusty, poor connection at the terminal creates resistance. That kills the fast-start advantage we built in, and worse, it can burn out your socket. Clean the contacts, plug them in, and you’re good to go.
