Getting the Heat Right in Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the struggle. You need that heat to hit the center of the preform wall, but if you push too hard, you end up scorching the surface. It’s a frustrating balancing act. That’s exactly why we built our IR modules. We wanted to stop the “surface burn” and actually get the energy where it belongs. The secret is in the wavelength. We use shortwave infrared (SWIR) emitters to pack in more energy. By tweaking the tungsten filament and the internal gas pressure, we shifted the emission spectrum. Why? Because PET resin just drinks up that specific wavelength. Instead of the heat just sitting on the outer skin, it actually sinks in. You get a smooth, uniform temperature from the outside all the way to the core. No headaches during install We didn’t want you to have to rebuild your oven racks just to use our gear. These are drop-in replacements. They fit Husky specs perfectly. We used high-purity quartz glass so they don’t get cloudy when things get hot, and the connectors are tight—no arcing, no sparks, even when you’re running high cycles. You just swap them out and get back to work. A quick word of caution Now, here’s the thing. When you push for deeper penetration, you’re increasing the wattage per millimeter. It makes your cycle times faster, which is great, but it puts more pressure on your cooling blowers. If you crank up the heat density, just make sure your ventilation is actually pulling that waste heat away from the lamp ends. If you don’t, you’re risking burnt-out sockets. Real-world results These lamps are built for the 24/7 grind. We focused on keeping the voltage drop stable across the filament so the heat stays consistent. That’s the key to avoiding those annoying “cold spots.” You know the ones—they lead to thin walls or that cloudy, pearlescent look during the blow stage. With these, the thermal soak is predictable. Every single time.
