They blast hot air everywhere, and in the process, they suck up every bit of grit and dust from the shop floor and pin it right into your wet paint. It&amp;rsquo;s a nightmare.&#xA;We found a way around this by ditching the forced air and moving to infrared (IR) drying lamps.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;How it actually works&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Here is the thing: IR lamps don&amp;rsquo;t bother with the air. They use electromagnetic radiation that goes straight through the paint and heats the aircraft skin itself.&#xA;Since there&amp;rsquo;s no wind blowing around the hangar, the dust just stays where it belongs—on the floor. You get that mirror-smooth finish without having to turn your entire shop into a surgical operating room.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;Getting it set up&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;We use short-wave IR emitters. These hit the surface hard and fast, which kicks the paint&amp;rsquo;s chemical curing process into high gear.&#xA;Depending on what you&amp;rsquo;re painting, you can scale the setup. For those massive fuselage panels, we just use modular arrays. It keeps the heat even across the whole surface.&#xA;And a nice little bonus? Because the lamps heat the metal and not the air, your HVAC system isn&amp;rsquo;t fighting a losing battle to keep the hangar cool.&#xA;&lt;strong&gt;The &amp;ldquo;Gotchas&amp;rdquo;&lt;/strong&gt;&#xA;Now, it&amp;rsquo;s not just &amp;ldquo;plug and play.&amp;rdquo; You have to be careful.&#xA;These lamps pack a serious punch of energy. If you try to wire them into a basic circuit, you&amp;rsquo;re going to have a bad time. You need a dedicated power controller, otherwise, you&amp;rsquo;ll burn out the lamps the second you ramp them up.&#xA;You also have to get your spacing right. If the lamps are uneven, you&amp;rsquo;ll end up with &amp;ldquo;zebra striping&amp;rdquo;—those annoying uneven cure lines in the paint. A little bit of calibration on the distance between the lamp and the skin is all it takes to make sure you don&amp;rsquo;t scorch the coating.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
