If the preforms run cool, you have to add dwell time, and that extra second gets multiplied across thousands of bottles. Run them too hot, and you’re chasing haze, weight drift, and rejects. The quartz infrared tube is what sets the heat profile—so when it underperforms, the whole line feels it. Keep the reflector clean and check its condition every time you change a lamp—lost reflectivity looks like “weak heat,” but it’s often an optics issue. Also, quartz infrared emitters are sensitive to airflow and ambient dust. In a dirty plant, run the tunnel airflow as designed and schedule a quick quartz wipe-down to avoid film build that throws off temperature.
